Before spending money on the abortion pill, it is important for you to know you have a viable pregnancy. Here are a few things to consider before forking out the cash:
- Confirm you have a viable pregnancy. One out of four pregnancies end in miscarriage. What does this mean for you? If you do not have a viable pregnancy, then the pregnancy will end naturally, and you will save yourself the cost of the abortion pills.
- Confirm the location of your pregnancy. If your pregnancy is located outside of the uterus, the abortion pills will not be necessary and could be more harmful to you. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, it could be detrimental to your health, and you would need to seek other medical services right away for your health and safety.
- Confirm the gestational age of the pregnancy. Using your last menstrual period dates are not accurate in determining how far along you are. It is important to know this because taking abortion pills later than 10 weeks in pregnancy could be harmful to your health. It is for this reason that the FDA has only approved the abortion pills until 10 weeks1 and taking the pills later in pregnancy puts you at a higher risk for complications such as an incomplete abortion and infection.

- Health Conditions – There are many health conditions where medication abortions would not be safe and therefore the risk of complications is greater. Being under the care of a licensed medical professional is important for your safety.
- Danger of Online Pills-Ordering abortion pills online is not safe! The Federal Drug Administration has a warning on its website about the dangers of purchasing abortion pills online. They warn “If a person does so, they would be bypassing important safeguards specifically designed to protect their health.” The FDA goes on to say that when ordering these pills online, “the FDA cannot ensure safety, effectiveness, or quality of those medications.”2 Often these pills are made in other countries where safety and health regulations are not in place and therefore you cannot trust the ingredients in these pills.
